The 3D Blog

This blog is all about 3D design, game graphics, hardware comparisons, etc. I think you get the picture.
I have to accept I don't have much talent but I do try, which is like failing except even worse...

RayFire Test 2

Second test of RayFire, again with Interactive Demolition and this time the simulation took less time and so did the render. An hour and a half both to simulate and render. The render times were achieved using the V-Ray RT per frame render time limit which was set to 30 seconds. Hope you enjoy watching!

RayFire Test 1

Testing out some features of RayFire. Quite interesting to see that the interactive demolition takes several hours to simulate whereas a pre-fractured object takes only and hour or so. It really does depend on the object but the reality is that it's quite slow when you have interactive demolition turned on. These are the results:

Collapsing Towers

I know I promised a tutorial which I still plan on making but I have to get my IB stuff done. Extended Essays and Lab Reports and ToK Essays... God! They are HORRIBLE! Anyway I was working with the MassFX physics engine to see what I could do and I formed this massive tower that in the digital world is about 10m high (Phew! Don't wanna look down that one!). To further understand how after effects was using in slow motion sequences and how it is used when there are reverse animations I dived into the Time Remapping tool. Now this feature is pretty simple and convenient and although I've heard it is said to be complex and hard I found it quite easy. I present the results:

Project Stardust Update #2

Completion is imminent. If my teacher says that this is ok I finally get my certificate! Hurrah! By the way I'll be posting a tutorial on how to make the shielding effect I created in 3ds max. Hope you guys like it!

Shielding Effect

After watching a video on Youtube of this shield that this guy made, I got curious as to how I could make a better one. This is the product of those few hours spent on making a shield that will stop anything and looks amazing to boot! I am aware of the fact that the shield does not have the best texture but the focus was on the way the particles dispersed as they hit the shield.

Project Stardust Update #1

So far so good. After emailing my instructor I waited patiently and by the next day I had received an email giving some advice. I followed those instructions and I think I've achieved quite a nice effect although it took me a while. I hope you like the new portal I've created. I prefer it over the previous one since it looks much more like a gateway between two parts of the universe.

Post your thoughts in the comments section below! :D

My Youtube Channel

Guys (and gals) hopefully someone is following this blog although I think 30 visitors does suggest a low rate of visits which is not the best news. Anyway that's not gonna stop me from posting on my blog.

Here's the link to my youtube channel: TheProphetsNextDoor

Check it out!

Blast from the Past #1

Alright! I've decided that I should put some of my old renderings and whatnot onto here. Well I guess I'd better stop typing and instead get to uploading.

Campfire!

Long time no post. Sorry for the pun. Anyway this morning I was sitting in front of my computer when my friend Ata asked me, "Can you do fire in 3Ds Max?". I told him, "Of course you can!" and this began the process of creating a campfire. I won't go into intimate detail of what was done because I plan on making a tutorial later on.

He gave the ideas and the criticism and I did the technical details although I believe we contributed equally in the creative process. Here is the product of three to fours hours of work:

3DS Max Project

I did a project for the end of my 3DS Max course, this is actually my third try but it's better than my first at the very least. I hope you enjoy it! :)

Wednesday

I was going over the fact that I have around 30 spaceship models ranging from good to bad and having no textures at all so I don't know what to do with them since I am really bad at texturing. So I'm going to post a render in the meantime where I worked on creating a diamond material (I created the gold material myself), I actually tried tutorials to make this one but finally gave up since neither tutorial worked. By the way if you want a tutorial just leave a comment and I'll try to see what I can do. Here's my model, what do you think?

My Blog Banner

Ok. So I just started this blog and well I immediately decided to create a banner, an image representing my blog and I whipped up a banner in 3DS Max 2011.
